Fun! and win Home Work in paperback

This has been just a fun week so far!

First I got to see a rough version of the cover for my upcoming Samhain book, Sole Support. Yes, the book still isn’t coming out until June, but Samhain is always waaaay out in front with everything. I like this cover a lot.

Second, I wrote a lot on Life Lessons #4 in the last few days, and I’m 2/3 done with the book. I’m still trying to figure out which loose ends have to be tied up. But it’s coming together and now I know who dunnit – always a watershed moment for me when writing (and yes, it took this long for me to know. Plotting? What is this advance plotting of which you speak? Finding out as I go along is part of the fun of writing – like reading, only better.)

I got some nominations on Jessewave’s “Favorite M/M Author in 2012”, alongside Amy Lane and Harper Fox and Jordan Castillo Price. I doubt I’ll make it into the final five, but it is such a thrill to see the nominations. I’m so glad my books are making people happy.

And I just won a free book in a drawing there. πŸ™‚

And finally, I got the author print copies of Home Work. MLR press was changing their process for print books and mine got lost in there somewhere. There is a special thrill in holding the paper version of one of my books and realizing I wrote that. Very cool!

In celebration, I’m going to do a random drawing for one of those print copies – here and on my Goodreads blog. Leave a comment between now and 10 AM EST on Saturday January 12th, and I will randomly draw one name for a signed copy of Home Work – Life Lessons #3. No restrictions for location. **This is the third book in a series, and should be read in order.** I will contact the winner on the weekend for a mailing address.

And now back to working on Life Lessons #4, which doesn’t have a title yet, but now has a complete plot. Sometimes this writing gig is just so much fun!

ETA: The winner of the signed paper copy of Home Work is Icedave (comment #9 on the Goodreads blog).

I’ll contact the winner by PM. Thanks everyone for commenting and entering the drawing.

  1. So gald that there is a print version of Home Work–although i downloaded the ebook I still find it easier to read a hard copy. Maybe I’m just too old-fashioned πŸ™‚ Now I’ll have to check out Jessewave.

    • There are free book drawings there daily. I’ve won twice, which is all out of proportion to the low number of times I’ve entered. But sometimes I think the Internet book world is balancing real life karma for me. It’s nice. πŸ™‚

  2. Oh hurrah! I was wondering when the print copy was coming out – there is a space on my shelf next to your other books waiting for it (why yes, when it comes to book series, I am a completest!)

  3. Oh, print! I love print books so much more then ebooks though I do have an ereader. How exiting as I’ve heard a lot of publishers are moving away from print. Please count me in.

  4. So glad Book 4 is getting closer! I can’t wait! I read Homework as soon as it came out, but I’d love a paper copy for my book case.

  6. Congratulations on the nomination! You seemed doubtful of your chance of winning, but I’d say you have a good chance – your stories are lovely.

    • Thanks! – it would be cool, but they will only put the top 5 authors who get the most nominations in the final vote. I didn’t count, but when I looked at the post a couple of days ago (it went up on Dec 31) it looked like Amy Lane, Abi Roux, Jordan Castillo Price and Harper Fox were probably in it. Plus one more somebody depending on nominations in the next few days – could be me and I’d be thrilled. But I’ve been writing less than 2 years – to be even close to ending up in the top 5 is exciting, and if it doesn’t happen this year, well, I’ll keep writing and there will be other years.

  7. I love your stories, and Life Lessons is one of my favorite series. Congrats on your nomination! You do deserve it, and for only writing less than 2 years, it goes to show what an amazing author you really are.

  8. Hey there,
Congrats to your nomination and the print. I really like to have my own print version, because Mac, Tony and especially Ben need not only a place on my kindle but in my bookshelf too! Can’ t wait for book #4! All the best from good ol’ Germany

  9. Hi Kaje. I wanted to let you know that I love your LIfe Lessons series! But, more importantly, are you ever going to get a Facebook page to pimp your books?? I follow ALL my favorite authors on Facebook and snatch up their new books as soon as they tell me they’re out. Or do you have a newsletter?? I’m dying for the next Life Lessons book to come out and really want to know they minute it is πŸ™‚

    • Thank you – I really appreciate the interest. I’ve stayed off Facebook so far, partly because with the Goodreads M/M group and the YA LGBT group I moderate, I already spend more time on social networks than I should. I have a love-avoidance relationship with my writing. (I love to write first drafts, avoid edits for any plausible or implausible reason I can find.) So time management is important. I don’t want to have Facebook and not keep it up to date, and I’m worried about being sucked into it (since many of my online friends seem to spend a lot of time there.)

So far I don’t have a newsletter – just the blog. I do post new releases here. I’ve considered some kind of sign-up-to-get-email-notice scheme, but not done anything about it at the moment. You may have gathered I approach technology a little slowly πŸ˜‰

Life Lessons 4 is coming along well – about 80,000 words and 3/4 done now. I’m taking a week to edit Sole Support for Samhain before Saturday, but then hope to finish LL4 and get it turned in.
